CHINS

You may already know this, but there are two types of ChINS petitions (at least in VA)......There is ChINS (Child in need of services) and then what we call a ChINSuper (Child in need of supervision).....the "super" is considered "worse."

I am not sure what daycare centers have to do with In-Home services. I go in to people's homes generally because they ask for help. Rarely I go to homes where they really are not interested and have been referred, but that often changes once they get to know me. Again, I am not sure what daycares ha...

Whoa.....what happened with the stepfather.....you said former, so I assume you divorced him and believed the girls.....why didn't they just have the stepfather leave and the girls stay with you (without him present).......did you kick him out right away or was he around or what.......I'm confused w...

court

I don't go to court too often.....usually only if the family wants me there. I have never been to a termination hearing......my goal is to KEEP THE CHILD WITH THE FAMILY.....so far only one of the children I have worked with has been removed.....I was at that hearing and the child was removed....but...

SID

I have no experience with the disorder, but am curious....it this the one where the child feels immense amounts of pain from just typical touching.....like brushing up against something or having clothes on?

Why would they put her on lithium? That's such a toxic drug to put a child on.

Autism

That's interesting.....unfortunately, Autism is becoming more and more common. I am working with two children with Autism Spectrum Disorder right now.....and in the same family! Not sure what your child's symptoms were but I am actually confused as to how that would be pinned as Munchausen's....... ...

My office is not in the same building as CPS (DSS).....community service boards are completely independent......FAPT is in the DSS building, but I do not work for FAPT....I attend FAPT on occasion when a family requests it, and if I am working with a family who wants more services, but that's about ...

There was nothing psychological about the case I had. I had all the physical evidence.....it was almost blatant. I'm not saying everyone who is accused is guilty....I do believe it is rare. I am saying it does exist and can happen and for those few children it does happen to.....it's awful. Most peo...

Marina....

I checked the service provider list.....my agency is not on it as far as I can tell.....but we are non-profit......any money we make goes strickly to overhead costs (and salaries I guess).

No....

No, I don't work for "Families First".....I work for a Community Services Board......these are boards that are mandated for each area in the state of Virginia. We are non-porfit.

chances

I am not sure of your chances for getting them back.....what were the reasons for removal? They seem old enough to decide where they want to live in my opinion. I recently helped reunite a mother and son (the son had been with his father for 10 years and it was BAD).....but CPS was not involved in t...

FAPT and DSS

FAPT is held at DSS......however, a very small minority of referrals come from CPS.....or even get "reported" to CPS. Many of the referrals come from the families themselves or their current service providers. My money comes from Medicaid.....Medicaid pays for the therapy.....not DSS. Sometimes, I g...

Munchausen by Proxy

This does exist. I have had one case in which the child's mother was making her ill on purpose. CPS was not involved either. I think the disorder is relatively rare and actually being a mandated reporter, I called CPS like once a week for this child and there was nothing they could do. There are sev...

I'm fairly new

Hi, I'm fairly new around this message board.....I found this site by accident while researching CPS. I work as an Intensive In-Home clinician and work to "keep kids with their families." I work for a community servces board and that of course is a separate entity from DSS and CPS. I'd be happy to h...

hmmmm

Well let me rephrase.....basically ANYTHING is reportable.....but drug use itself is not grounds for taking kids (at least not from my observations).....the drug use has to specifially impact the child's safety and that is often too dificult to prove. My yes, where I live, I have difficulty getting ...

right to choose

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention.....you definitely do have a right to choose your own therapist....one of the forms that all of my clients sign is the "freedom of choice" form, which states that you may choose any provider for any service that you need or want.....they cannot legally hold that against ...

CPS therapist?

What is a CPS therapist? Here is VA there is no such thing....CPS makes referrals to various therapists in the area, but they don't have any "set" therapists and they don't pay the therapists either. I am an In-Home therapist and occasionally receive referrals from CPS, but generally my rerferrals c...

Unfortunately

Unfortunately CPS will not generally do anything about "child on child" offenses.....unless the victimzed child was left in the care of the victimzer by the parents. I doubt this occurence will help you in any way. However, the stepbrother is now open to criminal charges and it is always possible th...

You're fine

Well, I really think you do not have anything to worry about. What state are you in? I am in VA and technically parents who are on drugs is not really a reportable offense (mandated reporters will usally report it anyway to cover themselves), unless they are dealers. And you aren't on any drugs anyw...

The problem is.....

The problem is it is consistent.....does not mean it happened.....and actually would be damaging to her if she was "treated" for sexual abuse and it never happened. But if you think back.....can you think of any opportunity someone would have had to harm her or what was happening during the time her...

Personality Disorders

Four-year-olds do not have personality disorders and are not really old enough for a diagnosis of ADHD or bipolar disorder. The kinds of behaviors you are describing are common with inadequate parenting, not necessarily abuse, but inadequate just the same. I would suggest your daughter atake some pa...

Your daughter

I'm just curious.....was your daughter recieving counseling for all of her behaviors? Some of them seem pretty extreme. And why was she acting like? Do you have any clue? I'm just curious because I am a child therapist.....and she's awfully young for those types of behaviors.....has she been abused ...
