Re: allegations of neglect
Get an attorney. I know it's expensive. Borrow the money if you have to (we took a loan out for our attorney, and it's worth EVERY penny of interest we're paying). For us, dealing with DCF has been like a rabbit hole that we just can't get out of. We have our children back, they were never adjudicat...

Is there a way to file a formal complaint against DCF/CPS?
How would one go about beginning to file a formal complaint against DCF/CPS in Florida?

Re: Is it better not to talk to CPS and go through lawyer
Yes! If your lawyer will. When CPS was investigating, they'd do things like call and tell us to come in for questioning. Immediately, we'd have our lawyer call and see what they wanted. 99% of the time, they were "fishing", and our lawyer advised CPS and the state's attorney that there was...

Re: CPS report is wrong, but no one cares - help?
I'm going to try to have my criminal attorney write a letter or something, clearing the record up. Edit: he's calling the case manager, to get everyone on the same page. I'm sure I'm his pain-in-the-butt client, but I feel like I'm walking a tightrope, balancing the dependency case and the criminal ...

Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer. I'm a parent going through hell with my own situation, and I'm offering suggestions based on my experience. This is not legal advice, but only suggestions from another parent. Discuss anything and everything with your own lawyer. First, Did you agree to the case plan? W...

CPS report is wrong, but no one cares - help?
I know that CPS reports for shelter hearings and dependency trials are prone to be exaggerated/overstated/opinionated/making issues of things that are not legal issues. But in this case, it's just flat-out wrong. The CPS report states that the children were removed on one day. In reality, the childr...

Re: Agents flat out lying to justify the ends....
They like to try to force people to take UAs. They tried it with my husband. He already had a court appointed lawyer at the time who wasn't afraid to get involved and nasty to avoid it (because it was a "fishing expedition").

Re: What is a staffing?
Almost 2 months. The judge, and the state's attorney have both said their goal is reunification ASAP. Our children are in "kinship foster care", and the relatives they are with have their own attorney who is thwarting us (or trying to). The DCF case manager and her supervisor just don't se...

Re: im lost and dont know if im right ir wrong
The best piece of advice I've ever gotten is to record EVERYTHING. Write everything down. Buy a notebook from the dollar tree and record every form of contact with everyone related to your case - phone calls, when you leave voicemails, visits with the kids, discussions with your lawyer, discussions ...

I went.
It was horrible. Felt like just a chance to tell me how terrible they think I am. Unpleasant, to say the least.

Re: What is a staffing?
Also, the Case Manager won't give me details about what the "Staffing" is for. She asked if I could attend, but it felt like a question that wasn't really a question, if you know what I mean. To attend the Staffing, I'll have to miss a psychiatrist visit and my visit with my children for t...

What is a staffing?
Our situation: kids are sheltered in foster care, had arraignment, dependency hearing is in a few weeks. Case Manager (who we hear from rarely) text me today and wants a "staffing" later this week. I've googled but gotten no real answers. What occurs in a staffing? Why would they want one ...

This can't be happening... everything feels surreal.
I'm trying to be as non- descriptive as possible while still giving all the relevant information, so please if I leave something out that is necessary, just ask. We're in Florida. DCF knocked on our door in early August. They allege the house was messy and a hazard. I do have an anxiety disorder, wh...
