Re: Grandma Needs Advice in Calif
Lyglee54: Sounds like the case has moved beyond my area of work. I work on the investigation side and not the court side. I have the following suggestions that may or may not work. If you could, try to get some duplicates of the photos that show the wounds on your grandson. Bring them to a doctor wh...

Lyglee: Do you mind to give some more details? Sounds like it went from the investigation i.e. Any prior CPS investigation? If so, what was the allegation and conclusion of it? What was the current allegation, general neglect? I assume it got substantiated. Any DV or AOD issue? What did the doctor s...

GamerXY: I am still confused because you keep referring to CPS SW when the correct term is caseworker. Firstly, most CPS caseworkers are NOT SW's. Most contract SW's here in Iowa are not even licensed SW's. I did run across one MSW working for the state agency, and that encounter (cross exam) was a...

Wow, it has been nine months already. Sorry for the late reply. Here's a little update... I finished my MSW and got hired by the county (in California). I started working as an official CPS SW two months ago. However, I've been there for a year (including my internship). Greegor: Typically, the SW m...

Some child abuse facts and statistics
I found this site through another forum. It stated 10 general facts regarding child abuse. What may startle you guys may be #8... Greegor, Sorry, I only have time to answer this portion for now. Can you confirm for me some kind of simple things? 1. In a given week, how many investigations do you do, and how many are for REAL abuse like blood, broken bones, sexual abuse? The cases I go out on may not be as many as the people I ...

GamerXY, How do you find out how a judge has ruled on certain things in the past? I don't really know the exact detail. My field instructor has been working in CPS for a long time. He told me that many of his cases that went through this particular judge had resulted in failed reunification or TPR....

The only reason she told me was that it would be a 'conflict of interest' if our current lawyer (who we obtained and paid for earlier on when CPS threatened to TPR us) were to remain on the case. We believe they don't want CPS to use her because she use to be a family court judge many years earlier...

Re: CPS is kicking our lawyer off our case?!?!
WHAT?! My wife went to go visit our kids for a supervised visit at the CPS headquarters today, and after the visit she talked with our new case worker. She told my wife: 1) We're assigning you two court-appointed lawyers tomorrow. One for each of you. 2) Your current lawyer can no longer work on yo...

You may want to talk to you SW's supervisor and find out why "you can't move." AFAIK, your SW should be able to transfer your case to another state as long as the Court did not order you to stay in CA as suggested by Frustrated. If it did, there's nothing you or your worker can do. If I were you, Ye...

Re: They can't be serious
Well, two days ago, her supervisor called and wants to interview the two older kids. This is just standard proceedure. The children can refuse the interviews. They can meet the caseworker in the front yard. You don't need to let her back into your house. You did it once already, and the caseworker ...

At TDMs in TN or otherwise known as Child and Family Team Meetings, the family brings who they want to the table. This is the families' oppurtunity to utilize their own supports and get the state out. We have similar service here in California called Family Group Decision Meeting (FGDM). That's one...
