If you can afford a real lawyer, then you'll probably get your child back. You might have to spend a lot of money, but at least you have a good chance, because a real lawyer who is getting paid by you will make an effort. I did a quick google news search for child abuse in San Diego, and there were ...

I've heard this story before. The names and dates change, but that's about it. If all the moms who'd gone through this got together, you could have one hell of a class action lawsuit.

It might be best to wait until the kids are home, but meanwhile there are lots of things you can do. First of all, tell your story to other people. It doesn't have to be in the media for a lot of people to end up hearing about it, because people talk to other people, and so on. The more of us who ta...

That's typical. We never met our kids' GAL until she showed up in court. She did talk to the foster parents, and met the kids and they showed her a photo album I'd put together. We were lucky. I've heard too many stories of other families who had a GAL who saw him/herself as a defender of abused chi...

The kids have been home for 6 weeks now. The DHS building was damaged in the flood, and the family courtroom was in the basement of the courthouse in the middle of the river, which you probably saw pictures of last month. The parking ramp filled up with water and burst the doors of the tunnel into t...

We started getting overnight visits a couple weeks ago, and now we're up to 2 days a week, then each week we'll increase that by 1 day, so they'll be 100% home by the end of next month. I'm looking forward to our case being closed and being able to go back to being real people again, who can take ou...

Our kids are coming home next month

Our kids have been in foster care for almost 10 months. It took 5 months until we got semi-supervised visits. Then after 2 months, we temporarily went back to fully supervised because we got in an argument, I went to a friend's house and our neighbor called the cops. (Tip: if you are being investiga...

Yeah, we're not allowed to see our kids with the foster parents supervising. Meanwhile, they're allowed to supervise visits with their fost-adopt baby and her parents, who don't want her but have to spend 85 hours with her before they can sign her over with informed consent. She's 4 months old and t...

Christmas was canceled

We hadn't expected to see the kids on Christmas, since CPS has a new policy that does not allow foster parents to supervise visits. (They can make exceptions, like if drug-addicted pedophiles want to sign away their rights to their baby but need to spend a certain amount of time with the baby first ...

Well, he must have mentioned it to our social worker, she brought it up and said we don't need to record. I told her it makes us feel safer.

Also, she also asked for pointers in dealing with some behavior issues the foster parents have been having with our son.

Recording visitation

Last week, our social worker told us that staff at the place visitation takes place had told her that we had a huge, screaming fight in the parking lot last month. Neither of us remembered anything of the sort happening, but of course it was a matter of their word versus ours, and you can guess who ...

CPS moves at a pace that makes glaciers look like Speedy Gonzales. They might be seriously considering placing your brother with you, or they might reject you for completely trivial reasons, or because of something your grandfather said about you. It doesn't matter if it's true or not, you have to b...

Our social worker finally got a hold of us (she'd been on vacation, and then another vacation) and said the kids will only be down there until school starts, at which point they'll come to stay with their daycare provider (who is also a foster mom and has been very helpful and sympathetic). I'm okay...

Today, our kids were moved to a new home, where they are together. However, it's in a different county. When my MIL asked for the kids, they told her no, citing the distance and her relationship with me. While there have been times that I've been upset with her, I still would rather they be with her...

Court- working towards reunification

We had court today. Since our landlord won't fix things, we're not paying rent so we can use the money for a new place. We're looking, but we might be staying with friends for a bit. Because of this, it really wasn't an option to get the kids back immediately. We need to find clean, safe, stable hou...

I've been thinking about this a lot. Obviously, Americans are losing the right to parent their children as they see fit. While I do believe that children have rights- to not be physically assaulted or sexually molested, to have a roof over their heads, food on the table, clothes on their backs, to b...

My husband's FIP has been canceled because the kids are in foster care, and my paycheck isn't going to be enough to cover rent. Stats on types of abuse in Iowa

I found these stats at this site "According to DHS records, approximately 9,640 children, on average, suffered abuse annually from 1994 through 1999. In 2000, these figures began a steep climb, going from 10,822 abused children in 2000 to 12,793 abused children in 2001, 12,295 children in 2002, 14,9...

Court was supposed to start at 3, but they were running late so all there was time for today was the CPS assessment worker's testimony. My husband's lawyer told us that the judge usually went along with CPS recomendations. The CPS assessment worker claimed that part of the reason the kids were taken...
