Indiana again

Postby Trisha G » Thu Mar 13, 2008 9:44 pm

The first one is an article about a woman molesting a girl in the facility my daughter was placed in when our kids were taken. Please note, most of the kids there are victims of CPS, not lawbreakers.

Ex-kids' home worker faces sex charges

Associated Press

ANDERSON, Ind. — A former worker at a church-run children’s home faces charges for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old female runaway.

Prosecutors say Stephanie M. Rogers, 36, Anderson, had a sexual relationship over several days in January with the runaway from the Indiana United Methodist Children’s Home in Lebanon.
Rogers has denied the accusation, police said.

She faces one count of sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class B felony punishable by a six- to 20-year sentence.

Rogers was being held today on a $500 cash bond at the Boone County Jail, a day after being arraigned in that county on a Class A misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. That charge is punishable by up to one year in jail.

Investigators allege Rogers was working at the children’s home when she first met the girl.

Police and prosecutors say Rogers gave the girl a ride to her Anderson home after the youth ran away on Jan. 6. Rogers said she had let the girl stay at her residence for several days and tried to help her. Police found the girl at Rogers’ home on Jan. 10.

The children’s home treats youth with emotional and behavioral problems.

Rogers’ job at the home was not listed in court papers, and a statement issued by the home did not elaborate on her work there, other than to say she had been fired.
“We continue to cooperate with investigating officials in this matter. Our foremost concern is providing an environment for the safety of the youth,” the statement said.
Madison County sheriff’s deputies took Rogers into custody at her home Friday and turned her over to Boone County authorities.

The second involves emotional abuse and is a case where the father should never be allowed to see his children again.

Cops: Muncie dad forced girl, 7, to kill pet cat

Associated Press

MUNCIE, Ind. — A man was jailed Thursday on charges he forced his 7-year-old daughter to kill the family cat by holding a knife in her hand and making her stab the pet. The man’s 11-year-old son tried to save the cat by hiding it under a sofa bed and putting ketchup on a knife.

An affidavit filed in the case alleges the father, Danield J. Collins, 39, told his children he wanted them to “learn how to kill” and gave the boy a knife to do it. The children told family members on Monday, the day after the alleged killing.
The children told police their father was drunk when they arrived to visit him at his home and that he’s a different person when he’s drunk, according to the affidavit. The siblings live with their grandparents.

Collins was being held in the Delaware County Jail on $40,000 bond tonight. He was charged with one count each of animal cruelty and battery and two counts of neglect of a dependent. The battery charge alleges the girl was injured because Collins held her hand so hard that her hand ached.

Muncie police Detective Jami Brown said the case was particularly troubling because Collins involved his children in killing the cat, an 8-month-old tuxedo type-cat named Boots.

“I’ve been doing investigations for 10 years and this is really bothering me,” the detective said.

Brown said that the boy tried to save the cat when Collins was in the bathroom. But when the father realized the cat was not dead, he forced his daughter to hold the knife and then held her hand tightly as he drove the knife into the animal, Brown said.

He allegedly then stabbed and strangled the cat himself, and told his son to throw the dead pet in the trash. Police retrieved the carcass to be used as evidence in the case.

The Delaware County Jail had no record of an attorney for Collins and there were no published listings for him in Muncie.
