Foster Care....

I am shocked to see how many children end up in foster care.
When CPS came to the hospital and let us know the kids couldn't come home with us the first thing she did was find out if there was any family the kids could stay with. We are fortunate we live by family and my mother could take them until I/we could get them back.

I guess my question is- Why are most kids in foster care? Is it because they didn't have family near by to take them in or did CPS not even give the family the option?

From the stories I've read, it's a little of both. In my daughter's case, if she had been a single mom with no family to step up, they'd have taken her baby right from the hospital and put her in foster care. The only reason she was able to keep her baby was because she lived at home with my husband and I and we agreed to provide 24/7 supervision for her and the baby.
