Babies reaction to pain

Postby RDutton » Sun Jul 09, 2006 3:18 am

How would a baby between the ages of 2 and 4 months react to broken back ribs?

My "well intending" mother has tried to tell me that my daughter would not have neccessarily cried, or displayed any pain in conjunction with such injuries. (Hence, the reasoning behind our not knowing they were broken.) When our case was opened, my husband and I had taken our daughter to the ER w/ a broken femur. THEN we found out about the ribs. I am not convinced they were really broken, since she never cried for anything other than what she needed, food, diaper change, gas...
She'd even fall asleep during her burping, which agains raises the question, is that normal for a baby with 2 broken BACK ribs?

The pediatritian told us nothing, he was very vauge in answering any questions, let alone that particular one. Right now, I am in the process of trying to figure this out, so I can fight it, if CPS and their doctors are wrong.

Also, will the doctors automatically agree with CPS on matters such as these; will they only think "abuse" if CPS is asking for a second opinion?

Will the opinion of a third, independant, doctor help at all?

That is interesting and I believe this is similar to Brittle Bone Syndrome. That article can be found on this Medical Board. I do believe if it was indeed broken, the baby would have cried and in pain. Just like a Circumsion would do. I remember that day when my room mate in the Hospital decided to circumsize her Son, and BOY!! Does he ever cry! He cried for two days straight because of that pain. If the Baby did not cry, then it is NOT broken.

I would recommend to have Xray's done, and the fractures will show up on X ray's, but you need a Xray Specialist to catch that on, because NO DOCTORS are skilled to find a fracture line. Even for my fractured hand, they could not find one, then a specialist caught one in my hand to the fact that TWO DOCTORS CANNOT SEE IT! But this Specialist can.

You need a Bone Specialist to make views more positive and accurate than a regular Doctor.

First off, thanks for the advice.

They ruled out brittle bone syndrome, and thank God for that. I never wanted to go through all of this mess, but I'd never want for my baby to have sucha dibilitating disease. She'd have more broken bones by now, too.

I guess now it's just a matter of finding a specialist who I won't have to pay an arm and a leg for, so to speak. :)

Does anyone know of any bone specialists down in the Southern California area? Has ony one ever done this before, gotten an impartial opinion on thier own?

You can always google the search and you will find great Bone Doctor that is not biased with CPS. You can always ask questions for him or her to answer and you will rest assured that he can see the lines or none at all and "WHEN". They can tell the time line for that too. They know everything that CPS can't.
