II. What to Look For When You Read a Case

1) A careful understanding of the facts.
2) An understanding of the arguments that each party argued to the court.
3) An understanding of the result and reasoning of the majority opinion, as well as
the reasoning of any concurring and/or dissenting opinions.
4) The possible effect and scope of the court’s decision.
