Use of experimental drugs on foster children

Postby family_man » Sun Aug 24, 2014 1:08 am

I know from personal experience that this is a serious problem. Most parents of foster kids have no say in what medications their kids are given. Even if they do (as in my case), they are labeled as neglecting their children's needs if they object to the administration of these drugs. If parents do not approve the drugs, it is taken as evidence that they are unfit parents.

With evidence like this extensive 5-part series in the Mercury News, maybe more parents can make their cases against the unnecessary use of psychotropic drugs. Not addressed in this article, however, is the problem of kids unnecessarily being placed into foster care in the first place, but that's a whole other story.
